Re-Wind Team scans blades in Northern Ireland
High resolution 3D digital scans of wind turbines blades were conducted by Conor Graham and Emma Delaney of the Re-Wind GIS team at Queens University Belfast. The GIS team made a visit to MACRETE Precast Concrete Engineers in Toombridge, Co. Antrim, to take LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) scans of wind turbine blades using a Leica P40 LiDAR scanner. The team scanned three Vestas V52 blades (29 m long) using three control targets. A scan of the inside of these blades was also conducted. Two smaller Luxwind S.a.r.l A29 blades (14.3 m long) were also scanned using no targets and were joined using cloud to cloud.
