Blade Repurposing at International Energy Agency Wind Task 45 Workshop in Bristol

Re-Wind network members Prof. Russell Gentry of Georgia Tech, Dr. Vesna Jaksic of Munster Technological University, Dr. Peter Deeney and Paul Leahy of University College Cork presented the latest blade repurposing applications at the general meeting of the International Energy Agency Wind Task 45 on Wind Turbine Blade Recycling.

The meeting was held at the National Composites Centre, Bristol, UK, on the 14th and 15th November 2023 with around 35 participants drawn from industry and research institutes across Europe and the USA.

Russell Gentry presented the latest Re-Wind USA repurposing designs. Peter Deeney presented some innovative concepts for financing wind turbine end-of-life handling, while Vesna Jaksic introduced the Ireland-based projects WindLEDeRR and EirBlade. One of the themes of the meeting was value chains for wind turbine blades, and Dr. Paul Leahy co-facilitated a workshop session with Dr. Anne Velenturf of University of Leeds on this topic.
