Midleton Greenway and BladeBridge Opened to the Public
Cork County Council officially opened the first phase of the Midleton-Youghal Greenway today.
The 8km pedestrian and cycle route runs between the towns of Midleton and Mogeely in southern Ireland. Halfway along the greenway, cyclists will see the twin blades of Ireland’s first BladeBridge, created by the Re-Wind project team. The main structural elements of the bridge are two 14m length decommissioned wind turbine blades which have been repurposed to provide this new, low-carbon and attractive piece of green travel infrastructure.
Construction of the BladeBridge was funded by Cork County Council and supported by Munster Technological University and Civil & Structural Engineering Advisors Ltd.
