BladeBridge and ESB using repurposed blades to develop e-mobility hub
BladeBridge has partnered with major Irish utility ESB to develop an innovative e-mobility hub and charging station made from repurposed wind turbine blades.
ESB announced the joint project in a press release issued in Dublin on 30th January. BladeBridge’s partnership with ESB emerged as a result of the Accelerator 2050 startup incubation programme run by Dublin’s Dogpatch Labs.
BladeBridge CEO Dr. Angela Nagle said “Once decommissioned, wind turbine blades still have a lot of life left in them, as they are crafted from composite materials that withstand massive forces and extreme weather conditions. Current methods of disposal include sending turbine blades to landfill, which will be banned in Europe by 2025. In collaboration with ESB Group we will repurpose decommissioned wind turbine blades into sustainable infrastructure with the construction of a new e-mobility Hub."
